What We Learned from Testing Web Monetization using Chimoney App with the Interledger Community

At Chimoney, we believe the best products are built with our users, not just for them. With our recent integration of Web Monetization into Chimoney App wallets, we wanted to put the experience to the test with real people from the Interledger community.

So, we ran a series of one-on-one feedback sessions where participants tried out the Web Monetization flow on the Chimoney App, either as creators or supporters or both. Our goal was to understand how the flow feels, what works well, and where there’s room for improvement.

How the Sessions Worked

Each participant walked through the core experience:

  • Creating and verifying a Chimoney account.
  • Getting their own Interledger wallet address.
  • Connecting their wallet using the Web Monetization browser extension.
  • Sending or receiving their first payments.

We provided a step-by-step guide, but also encouraged participants to share their thoughts aloud, moments of excitement, confusion, and ideas for making the experience better.

What We Heard

The sessions gave us a mix of reassurance and insight. On one hand, they confirmed much of what we had hoped for, Adrian Boros summed it up simply: “Everything worked!” Sid Vishnoi added that the app was “so smooth and easy to use,” even noting that it could become his go-to wallet for Web Monetization. On the other hand, the feedback also pointed us toward small but meaningful areas that could make the experience even better. These weren’t major blockers, but rather thoughtful details that, once refined, could take the flow from good to exceptional.

Some of the highlights included:

  • More Flexibility: A common request was for editable usernames on the interledger wallet addresses. People want their wallet addresses to feel like their own, and giving them control over their identity is a simple but intuitive upgrade.

  • Mobile Authentication: Another key suggestion was to make wallet authentication more seamless by allowing it to happen directly through the mobile app rather than requiring a full web browser login. This would simplify the process and create a smoother experience, especially for users on the go.

  • More countries support: Feedback also pointed to the need for wider accessibility, noting that India and Romania were not yet supported. We’ve since implemented this suggestion, and both countries are now live on the platform.

Key Takeaways

A major takeaway was that the overall Web Monetization experience on Chimoney App felt smooth and intuitive. Users found the wallet and payment flows easy to navigate, which reassured us that the core experience works well. With the feedback, some of which we’ve already implemented, we’ve understood that small but meaningful refinements can make the onboarding journey even more seamless and personalized.

Most importantly, the sessions gave us validation from the community itself. They see the Chimoney App as a strong candidate for their go-to Web Monetization wallet. That kind of trust and recognition is the best feedback we could ask for, and it motivates us to keep refining and expanding the experience.

What’s Next

We’ve already started acting on the feedback and our focus moving forward is to keep testing, learning, and iterating alongside the community. The goal is to shape a payments experience that’s global, interoperable, and, above all, simple and reliable. A big thank-you to the Interledger community members who joined our sessions!
